“For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” – Matthew 24:24
After almost four full nights of hate filled fear mongering, complete with calls and chants, reminiscent of a third world banana republic, to extra judicially imprison the opposing party’s candidate, and one delegate even stating a desire to see her executed by firing squad, the man at the podium shouts out a litany of evils he alleges are perpetrated against good Americans by various others with darker skin. Immigrants coming across the border, refugees fleeing war torn countries, and African Americans living in poverty ridden inner cities are the bad guys, the invading hordes that good Americans need protection from. Who these good Americans are is never explicitly spelled out, but it is implied that they look like the overwhelmingly white audience lapping up the man’s speech.
This man is a vainglorious ignoramus intent on tearing up international agreements and running the presidency as if he will be in the role of Mafia don. In an alarming interview with the New York Times, he said he wants to withhold support from our NATO allies unless they “pay up.” It’s a proposed extortion racket, where NATO allies will be expected to pay protection money or risk the United States allowing them to fall to enemies like Russia. This is a man who has already promised to take away citizenship from children born in America to immigrant parents, ban members of a particular religion from entering the country, force our military to commit war crimes by killing the family members of our enemies, and torture prisoners of war. How he will work with Congress to enact his heinous plans is never stated. He repeatedly promises to bring about change through the sheer force of his iron will. “I will give you everything,” the man promises his followers. “I’m the only one.”
Frighteningly, many Americans are buying the fool’s gold this man of inherited wealth is selling. Yes, there are legitimate concerns about a changing, global economy, but they choose to ignore the complicated factors of the new economy and instead are buying this man’s racial resentment, choosing the dangerous path of a demagogue with simplistic answers. Unlike his political antecedent who rose to power and created the Third Reich, this man stands to inherit the nuclear codes of the current United States, the most powerful country in the world and far more potent than the Weimar Republic of the 1930s.
The people are afraid. They listen to him. He finishes his convention speech with this solution to America’s problems: “I am your voice. I alone can fix it.” To this the brainwashed crowd chants, “Yes you will!” They no longer wish to be governed, they want a king to rule them.
“So Samuel reported all the words of the Lord to the people who were asking for a king. He said, ‘These will be the ways of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them to his chariots and to be his horsemen, and to run before his chariots…He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive orchards and give them to his courtiers…and you shall be his slaves. And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves; but the Lord will not answer you in that day.” – 1 Samuel 8:10-18
